Biography & Artist Statement

I was born in Hempstead, New York, in 1982.

My work is rooted in realism and narrative with the aim of providing glimpses into New York lives. My paintings and drawings are made in series that present scenes in a cinematic manner, creating a sense of familiarity with the characters. I develop each piece from photographs, allowing for extreme detail that cannot be seen with a casual glance.

My Burlesque series delves into this New York sub-culture. I was inspired by the performer’s confident attitudes and elaborate costumes. In my drawings, I situate the dancers on an invisible stage. This suggests performance while forcing the viewer to focus on the individual removed from her circumstances.
